Mechanism of Action
Beta Agonist (beta 2); Relaxes bronchial smooth muscle, resulting in bronchodilation; also relaxes vascular and uterine smooth muscle; decreases airway resistance
Indication and Field Use
Treatment of Bronchospasm
Contraindications
Synergistic with other sympathomimetics
Use caution in pt with DM, Hyperthyroidism and Cerebrovascular Disease
Adverse Reactions
CV: Dysrhythmias, tachycardia, peripheral vasodilation RESP: Bronchospasm CNS: Tremors, nervousness GI: Nausea, Vomiting ENDOCRINE: Hyperglycemia
Incompatibilities/Drug Interactions
Tricyclic Antidepressants and monoamine oxidase inhibitors
Other sympathomimetics
Adult Dosage
Give 2.5mg of premixed solution for inhalation via SVN with a mouthpiece.

5-15min, 30min-2hours, 3-4 hours, 2.5mg albuterol premixed in 3cc NS sulfite-free
