Articulations, Joints, Bone Markings Flashcards
Joints of the shoulder
sternoclaviular joint acromiclavicular joint, glenohumeral joint scapulothoracic joint( not a joint)
sternoclaviular joint
Saddle type, synovial joint; very strong, usually fracture clavicle before dislocating SC
joint
bony landmarks of sternoclavicular joint
manubrium, clavicle
muscles of sternoclavicular joint
no muscles act directly on the SC joint, but muscles that move the clavicle may
affect movement at the SC joint
Deltoid, pectoralis major (clavicular head), trapezius, sternocleidomastoid
Acrmioclavicular joint
Often injured; in a vulnerable position; “I separated my shoulder”; Plane/gliding synovial joint
bony landmarks of acrmioclavicular joint
clavicle, acromion
muscles of acrmioclavicular joint
No muscles act directly on the AC joint, but muscles that move the clavicle may affect movement at the AC joint
• Deltoid, pectoralis major (clavicular head), trapezius, sternocleidomastoid
Glenohumeral joint
Ball-and-socket; “I dislocated my shoulder”
bony landmarks of glenohumeral joint
glenoid fossa, spine of the scapula, humeral head, greater tubercle,
lesser tubercle
muscles of glenohumeal joint
supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, subscapularis, deltoid, pectoralis major, latissimus dorsi, coracobrachialis, teres major, triceps brachii (long head), biceps brachii (both heads)
scapulothoracic joint
Not a true synovial joint
bony landmarks of scapulothoracic joint
costals, scapula (lateral border, medial border, inferior angle, superior
angle, spine of the scapula
muscles of scapulothoracic joint
trapezius, rhomboid minor and major, levator scapula, serratus anterior,
pectoralis minor
elbow joint * upper extremity*
Superior radioulnar joint (pivot)
Humeroulnar joint (hinge);
Humeroradial joint (hinge)
bony landmarks of elbow joint
olecranon fossa, olecranon process, coronoid fossa, coronoid process,
capitulum, radial head, lateral epicondyle, medial epicondyle
