Arthology of Upper Limb Flashcards
Not a true joint. Rather a functional joint
Scapula thoracic Joint
Gliding motion with the scapula moving superiorly
Elevation
A gliding motion with the scapula moving inferiorly
Depression
A gliding motion with the scapula moving towards the spine
Retraction (adduction at S-T joint)
A gliding movement with the scapula moving away from the spine
Protractor (abduction at the S-T joint)
What is the point of reference for rotation?
Glenoid Fossa
The glenoid fossa moves superior ly (inferior angle moves laterally)
Upwards /lateral rotation
The glenoid fossa moves inferiorly (the inferior angle moves medially)
Downward/medial rotation
The stern al end of the clavicle articulates with the manubrium
Syernoclavicular Joint
What kind of joint is the Sternoclavicular joint?
Synovial, saddle
Available movements of the Sternoclavicular joint
- Superior/inferior glide
- Anterior/posterior glide
- rotation
When we fall on an outstretched hand, the shock happens where?
The articulating disc of the Sternoclavicular joint
Ligaments of the Sternoclavicular joint
- anterior Sternoclavicular ligament
- posterior Sternoclavicular ligament
- interclavicular ligament
- costoclavicular ligament
Where does the costoclavicular ligament attach?
Inferior clavicle– 1st rib
Prevents all excessive movement except inferior glide.
Costoclavicular ligament
The acromial end of the clavicle articulates with the acromion of the scapula
Acromioclavicular Joint
What type of joint is the Acromioclavicular joint?
Synovial, plane
Available movements of the Acromioclavicular joint
- anterior/posterior glide
- rotation (small movement)
Ligaments of the Acromioclavicular joint
- Acromioclavicular ligament
- coracoacromial ligament
- coracoclavicular ligament
Attachment of the Acromioclavicular ligament
Clavicle–acromion
Attachment of coracoacromial ligament
Coracoid process–acromion
What is the coracoacromial arch?
Darla deemed important!
Arch formed by the coracoid process, the coracoacromial ligament and the acromion
Attachments of coracoclavicular ligament
Coracoid process–clavicle
Other ligaments with coracoclavicular ligament
- trapezoid ligament
- conoid ligament
