Arterivirus Flashcards
Arterivirus
enveloped or non-enveloped
RNA or DNA
pathogens of _____
enveloped
+ssRNA
swine, horses, primates, rodents
Equine Arteritis Virus
host:
reservoir:
transmission:
pathogenesis:
clinical signs:
host: horses, donkeys, mules, zebras
reservoir: stallions
transmission: resp secretions, urine, blood, aborted fetal tissues, sexual transmission, in-utero, fomites
pathogenesis: tropism for macrophages, monocytes, and lymphocytes leads to vasculitis, edema, hemorrhage
clinical signs: dependent edema in hind limbs, scrotum, mammary glands, prepuce, ventrum & periorbital/ supraorbital edema
- mares - abortions or congenital defects
- males - carries, asymptomatic
when do mares typically have abortions if infected wit equine arteritis virus
10-30 days post infection and can happen anytime during pregnancy
infection in late gestation will result n congenital defects
equine arteritis virus
diagnostics:
control:
diagnostics: PCR, VI, ELISA, VN
control: vx, test stallions, biosecurity, quaratine, restricted movement
Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus
host:
transmission:
pathogenesis:
clinical signs:
host: domestic swine
transmission: body fluids, in-utero, aerosols, fomites
pathogenesis: macrophages & DC, esp. lungs = enzootic pneumonia
clinical signs:
“blue ear disease” - cyanosis
repro failure in gilts/sows
resp dz in young pigs
most costly disease of swine
Porcine Repro & Resp Syndrome Virus
Porcine Repro & Resp Syndrome Virus
immunity:
diagnostics:
control:
immunity: Ab 1 mo post-infection and are non-neutralizing
diagnostics: PCR (primarily) and ELISA
control: biosecurity, sanitation, vx
