what is Wedging?
The act of kneading clay to get rid it of air pockets and ensure consistent moisture throughout the material.

A mixture of clay and water, the consistency of yoghurt, which acts as glue to bond one piece of clay to another.
what is scoring Clay?
Making marks on the clay surface to increase the
grip or tread, between clay pieces being joined together.
what is Coil?
Cylinders rolled from clay to look like snakes
what is a Slab?
A piece of clay rolled flat which creates relief sculptures
what is the Leatherhard stage?
Leatherhard clay is icy cold to the touch. Although no longer bendable, it is the best stage at which to carve clay.
what is the Greenware stage?
Greenware refers to clay that is air-dried and is ready to be fired in the kiln. no longer cold to the touch and is fragile in this state.
what is Kiln?
an oven for baking clay and it goes up to extremely high temperatures to melt the silica in the clay and turn it into glass or stone
what is firing?
Firing heats clay to very high temperatures

Clay that has been fired once

Spirit lines and Energy Lines. extending from the hand or the body of a figure. Sometimes they are connected and sometimes they are alone or isolated.
