Arms Flashcards
what is a common way that people cheat with arm exercises?
lots of swinging. they use the momentum to get the lift in. arnold also used to use alot of lower back- this is an injury hazard.
what are 21s?
sometimes called 3 part 21s. almost exclusively done with curls but can be done with any exercise. 7 reps from bottom to middle. 7 reps from middle to top. 7 reps from bottom to top. this is alot of stress and is a way to overload in a different way- usually use less weight than normal.
what is a standing wall curl?
back against wall so you cant cheat by swinging. this is more of an isolation if people swing alot. want feet 12-18 inches from wall so dont fall over forward.
what is a preacher curl?
typically done with EZ curl bar to make easier on wrists. we need a “preacher bench”. seated with cushion in front this trys to take cheating out because cannot swing or use shoulders. the bench is technically called “scott bench”
what is an arm blaster for?
so you do not lift the elbows.
which arm muscle is stronger?
the triceps are stronger than the biceps.
what is a standing 1 arm DB curls?
we do this if no preacher bench we just lean over another bench.
what is a seated incline DB curl?
we change the seat angle as needed. around 45 degrees. we tend to get more stretch in the bicep becuase it does not hit our leg on the way down like we do with standing barbell. its basically just a bench with a back.
what is a concentration curl? what what muscle does it mainly work that is different?
sit on a bench and lean over to brace yourself. lean elbow into leg. do this so you dont swing elbow. this targets the brachialis mainly instead of biceps.
what are standing cable curls?
typically done with a low pulley. we can change the direction of pull depending on how far away we stand. need rotating handles or can use ropes for neutral grip.
what is a bilateral high pulley cable?
elbow flexion, just slightly change the angle.
what is the difference between running the rack and stripping?
running the rack is with DB and stripping is with plates
what is running the rack?
start at 50 lbs, then 45, then 40 back to back. huge shock to biceps . lots of overload
what is stripping?
start with 6-5lb plates, then 5-5lbs, then 4… etc. done often with biceps and strictly with plates.
how do people get huge bicep peaks?
it is really based on genetics but if detach bicep it gets huge and rolled up.
