Meridian
arc drawn between North and South poles
longitude
numbering system that identifies locations of meridians
Prime meridian
zero degrees longitude, passes through Greenwich England.
International Date Line
on 180 degrees longitude for the most part. going east across it, turn 24 hours back. Going west across it turn 24 hours forward.
Greenwich Mean Time
the time at the Prime Meridian. Its the master reference for all other points on earth.
parallel
circle drawn around the globe, parallel to the equator
latitude
numbering system that identifies the location of each parallel
Geographic Information Science
development and analysis of data about Earth acquired through satellite and other electronic information technology
remote sensing
acquisition of data about Earth’s surface from orbiting of satellites or other long distance methods
Global Positioning system
the system that accurately determines the precise location of something on earth.

computer system that captures stores, queries, analyzes, and displays geographic data
