aos 2 chapter 8 fatigue and recovery Flashcards

1
Q

ATP-PC system

A

main fatiguing factor: Fuel depletion(intramuscular ATP and PC stores)

impact on performance: depletion of ATP-PC system
-decreased rate of ATP production

recovery strategy: passive recovery
benefit: passive recovery allows for PC to be replenished

Q

anaerobic glycolysis system

A

fatiguing factor: accumulation of metabolic by products (hydrogen ions)

impact on performance:
-produces lactic acid when their is insufficient 02 present to oxidise pyruvate
-increased acidity of muscles (lower ph)

recovery stage: active recovery (conducted at low intensity)

benefits:
- maintains higher oxygen levels speed up removal of bi products
-creates a muscle pump which increases venous return compared to passve rest helping remove waste products.

Q

aerobic glycolysis system

A

main fatiguing factor: fuel depletion of glycogen stores (events lasting over an hour)

impact on performance:
- glycogen is the bodies preferred fuel when exercising as it requires less oxygen to breakdown compared to triglycerides
-decrease in intensity

recovery method- refuelling food CHO and sports drinks

benefits:replace CHO lost through the activity

Q

aerobic system- elevated body temp-dehydration

A

impact on performance: Increases chance of dehydration through sweating resulting in decreased blood and volume and decreased decision making/concentration

recovery method: hydration (water)

benefits: by consuming adequate amount of fluid prior to exercise it will reduce the chance of dehydration
