- condition where the feeling of anxiety does not go away and potentially worsens over time
- often impedes with occupational performance
- is the most common comorbidity associated with other conditions and disorders

How is anxiety disorder diagnosed
A
- see a primary care provider or healthcare professional to check if there are any underlying health conditions correlated to anxiety
- might see a mental health specialist or a psychiatrist
- psychological evaluation and screening tools
- compare symptoms to the criteria’s in the DSM-5

Treatments and medications for anxiety disorder
A
- psychotherapy = also known as talk therapy and psychosocial counseling
- CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) = a short-term treatment, focuses on teaching you specific skills to improve your symptoms and gradually return to the activities you’ve avoided because of anxiety (includes exposure therapy)
- benzodiazepines = short term, people build a tolerance
- selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI)

- characterized by increased anxiety when removed from a loved one, mostly seen in children
