A response to a particular sporting situation

caused by a threatening circumstance
An individual with high trait anxiety is more likely to
experience high state anxiety when faced with a stressful situation, especially if others are watching or evaluating

as anxiety increases performance decreases

may lead to additional stress

time consuming as prior knowledge of peformance is required
could change behaviour if they know they are being watched
