Procainamide (Pronestyl)
use for atrial & ventricular tachydysrhythmias
contra - known hypersensitivity
Lidocaine
Only used for ventricular dysrhythmias
watch bradycardia
Phenytoin
used for atrial or ventricular tachydysrhythmias caused by digitalis toxicity or long QT syndrome
Flecainide (tomabocor)
first line drug in treatment of A-fib
Atenolol (Tenormin)
beta2 so lungs so patient cannot have asthma or COPD or anything there because severe bradycardia
Amiodarone (Cordarone, Pacerone)
dangerous
interacts with digoxin & warfarin
Antidysrhythmics all interact with:
Grapefruit juice & coumadin
Adensoine (adenocard)
scary drug
very short half life - less than 10 sec
only IV push
cause asystole for a few seconds
Nursing implications
Monitor ECG for prolonged QT Interval
lidocaine & epinephrine no IV only local anesthetics
