Nitrates

A

Some bypass the liver

Vasodilation and relaxation of smooth muscles
Potent dialing effect on coronary arteries

Rapid acting - sublingual and IV
Long - patch or paste

Nitroglycerin & isosorbide dinitrate is both rapid and long

Isosorbide mononitrate is long

AE - headaches (wear gloves), tolerance

Contra-glacoma, severe head injury, erectile dysfunction drugs

A

Put on oxygen when someone had chest pain
BBs block harmful effects of cafechilamines thus improving survival after MI.

Conta- bronchial asthma, can mask hypoglycemia induced tachycardia

CCBs

A

Contra- Acute MI, second or third degree AV block
AE - relate to overexpressiin of therapeutic effect

Limit caffeine
Watch out for weight gain of 2lb/1day or 5lb/week
Alcohol and hot baths - no

Potency is lost after 3 months bottle is opened. Store airtight dark glass bottle with metal cap and no cotton filter
