A

depression, anxiety, PTSD, chronic pain, enuresis, bulimia, alcoholism

25
Q

Which SSRIs is a potent P450 inhibitor?

A

Fluoxetine & Paroxetine. Fluoxetine forms norfluoxetine as an active metabolite

A

Depression, anxiety, PTSD, chronic pain, enuresis, bulimia, alcoholism

31
Q

Atypical antidepressants?

A

Bupropion, Mirtazapine

32
Q

Bupropion mxn?

A

Atypical: Blocks DA & NE reuptake

33
Q

Bupropion for?

A

Depression, anxiety, PTSD, chronic pain, enuresis, bulimia, alcoholism, nicotine abstinence

34
Q

Bupropion side effect?

A

Lowers seizure threshold

35
Q

Mirtazapine mxn?

A

Atypical: 5HT2a antagonist; Inhibit 5HT reuptake

36
Q

Mirtazapine for?

A

Depression, anziety, PTSD, chronic pain, enuresis, bulimia, alcoholism

37
Q

Lithium mxn?

A

??? – Depletes secondary messengers IP3 and DAG (which are important in alpha adrenergic and muscarinic cholinergic transmission)

38
Q

Lithium for?

A

Anti-manic/mood-stabilizing (bipolar); Long term cluster headache prevention

39
Q

Lithium side effects?

A

If elevated levels; neurotoxicity, cardiac toxicity, renal dysfunction. Drowsiness, weight gain, tremor, polydisplia, polyuria, avoid indomethacin and Na-depleting diuretics…Nausea & vomiting are early signs of lithium OD

40
Q

Besides lithium, what is also helpful in treating bipolar?

A

Anti-epileptics: Carbamazepine, Valproate, MAOIs (during depressive phases), concurrent use of benzodiazepines (b/c Li onset is slow), antipsychotics (when severe)

41
Q

SSRI side effects?

A

Serotionin syndrome, nausea, sexual dysfunction – fewer than TCAs
