Inhibit Dihydropteroate synthase required for folic acid synthethsis
Kernicterus
Sulfa drug displaces albubin bound bilirubin. Bilirubin enters BBB of newborn leading to encephalopathy

Inhibit Dihydrofolate reductase required for folic acid synthesis
Rifampin use
Tuberculosis
Timethoprim use
MRSA
Rifampin downside
Induces hepatic enzymes
HIV drugs deminished
Substitute with Rifabutin
Quinolone mechanism
Inhibits DNA gyrase and DNA topoisomerase IV
Any drug ending in floxacin is
fluoroquinalone
Nitrofuran mechanism
Formation of oxygen free radicals
Metronidazole use
Anaerobic infections
Contraindication to nitrofuran
Poor renal function . Pulmonary fibrosis associated toxicity
Resistance to inhibiting cell wall synthesis
Mycoplasma (no cell wall)
L forms of bacteria (no wall)
Cycloserine
inhibits L-ala-D-ala and D-ala-D-ala linkage
