Nitazoxanide

A

MOA: Unknown but could be related to inhibition of pyruvate: ferredoxin oxidoreductase

First and only drug approved for treatment for cryptosporidiosis

Used for liquid treatment of diarrhea caused by C.parvum & G.lamblia

Active against protozoa & helminths

Active against anaerobic & microaerophilic bacteria against rotavirus, influenza, hep C

Recommended as followup after metronidazole in patients w/ invasive amoebic disease
