Mebendazole
MOA: Inhibits microtubule function
MOR: Mutation in beta - tubulin
-Formerly main drug of choice for most intestinal round worms
Albendazole
MOA: inhibitory effect on tubulin polymerization
Multiple doses need to needed to eradicate whipworm
One dose for other worms
Pyrantel
Used to be available as prescription, now OTC
-All intestinal round worms covered by pyrantel and mebendazole
Ivermectin
MOA: against arthropods
-Scabies: use w/ topical treatments
Praziquantel
-MOA
MOA: Opens Ca channels, result in tetanic contraction of worms and vacuolization of the integument
- Kills only adult tapeworns
- Skin invading cercariae and larval schitosomes are not affected
