Anterior Thigh Flashcards
Dermatome meaning
Area of skin supplied by a single spinal nerve
Dermatome of anterior thigh
L1, L2,L3
L1- femoral branch of genitofemoral nerve
L2- lateral and medial cutaneous nerves of thigh
L3-lateral and medial cutaneous nerves of thigh
Superficial fascia layers and contents
- Fatty layer; contains great saphenous vein, lymph nodes&cutaneous nerves
- Membranous layer
Muscles of anterior thigh
Quadriceps femoris
Sartorius
Pectineus
Iliopsoas
Sartorius
O- ASIS
I- upper part of medial surface of tibia
A-flexion of hip and knee joints
Femoral triangle boundaries
Medial- medial border of adductor longus
Lateral- medial border of Sartorius
Base- inguinal ligament
Roof- skin and fascia containing great saphenous vein and cutaneous nerves
Floor- adductor longus, pectineus, psoas, iliacus
Contents of femoral triangle
- Femoral sheath
- Femoral vessels - with their branches and tributaries
- Nerves - femoral nerve, femoral branch of genitofemoral nerve, lateral cutaneous nerve of thigh
- Deep inguinal lymph nodes
Femoral canal advantage and disadvantage
Advantage- allows distension of femoral vein during muscular exercise to increase venous return
Disadvantage- allows femoral hernias (more common in women)
Branches of femoral artery in femoral triangle
- Three superficial inguinal
-superficial external pudendal
-superficial epigastric
-superficial circumflex iliac - Deep external pudendal
- Profunda femoris
- Muscular branches
Swelling in femoral triangle
- Femoral hernia
- Femoral artery aneurysm
- Femoral vein thrombosis
- Enlarged inguinal lymph nodes
5.psoas abscess - Lipoma of fatty tissue
