Anterior Abdominal Wall Flashcards
Describe the external oblique muscle
Connects the iliac crest to the pubic tubercle and the free border is at the inguinal ligament, it has an aponeurotic part which contributes to the rectus sheath (SLANTS TOWARDS FRONT POCKETS)
Describe the internal oblique muscle
Connects the iliac crest to the pubic tubercle and has an aponeurotic part which contributes to the rectus sheath (SLANTS INTO BACK POCKETS)
Describe the transverse abdominis muscle
Connects the iliac crest to the pubic tubercle and has an aponeurotic part which contributes to the rectus sheath and lies within the transversalis fascia
Describe the rectus abdominis muscle
Lies on top of the rectus sheath and has tendinous intersections (contains superior and inferior epigastric vessels)
Describe the basic anatomy of the inguinal ligament
Begins at the ASIS and travels to the pubic tubercle
What is the linea alba?
Central line of the abdomen (middle line of 6 pack)
What are tendinous intersections?
Separating lines within the rectus abdominis muscle (6 pack structure)
