What is myasthenia gravis?
Have limited amounts of acetylcholine.
Causes muscle weakness, droopy eye lids, trouble swollowing
What is the treatment for myasthenia gravis?
Pyridostigmine
What is the receptor that stimulates slower HR and stimulates smooth muscle?
Muscarinic
What cholinergic drug would stimulate urination?
Bethanechol
Anticholinergics would do what to the pupils?
Constrict aka myosis
If a person is overdosing on urecholine, what do you do?
Give atropine
What are the signs of a urecholine overdose?
Sweating, flushing, nausea, and abdominal cramps
Why would you not give a patient anticholinergic if they have glaucoma?
It would increase the intraocular pressure
Why would you give atropine?
Preoperative, so the patient doesnt aspirate
Or for symptomatic bradycardia
For elderly patients, what do you need to look out for if they are taking anticholinergics?
Being out in the sun or heat
Doesnt allow for sweating
What is another name for an adrenergic?
Sympathomimetic
An allergy kit would have what in it?
Epinephrine
Why would you use adrenergic drugs?
Asthma or Bronchitis
Open Angle Glaucoma
Cold or Bad Nasal Congestion
What are the side effects of beta adrenergic agonists?
Tachycardia
Tremors
Palpitations
Nervousness
What are the warnings about taking beta blockers?
Do not stop taking them abruptly
Must wean off
