Testing Position of Gastrocnemius Muscle Length (Standing)
Tested limb in slight hip ext., full knee ext., & heel flat on floor. Pt shifts weight forward onto opposite limb until tested heel is about to come off floor.
Testing Position of Gastrocnemius Muscle Length (Supine)
With the knee fully extended, active or passive ankle dorsiflexion.
Testing Position Soleus Muscle Length (Supine)
With the knee in 45° flexion, active or passive ankle dorsiflexion.
Testing Position of Soleus Muscle Length (Standing)
Tested limb in slight hip ext., 30°–40° knee flexion, & heel flat on floor. Pt shifts weight forward onto opposite limb until tested heel is about to come off floor.
Ankle Plantarflexion 3, 4, or 5 Instructions
Find the tallest height with single heel raise:
25+ reps - 5
2-24 reps - 4
1-2 reps (If the second rep is horrible) - 3
