animal physiology (responding to stimuli -- muscle) Flashcards
Skeletal muscles is highly organized what are the 6 sections of it?
Muscle Fascicle Muscle Fiber Myofibril Myofilament Sacromere
what is the Sarcomere composed of?
Made of 2 protein myofilaments
what is a thick filament is composed of?
several hundred molecules of the protein myosin
what does a thin filament consists of?
2 intertwining strands of the protein actin
what happens to the myosin and actin filaments during a muscle contraction?
These filaments slide over one another
the length does not change just the position of them in relation to each other
what are the Three basic steps to a Muscle Contraction?
- Electrical Excitation
- Electrical – Mechanical Coupling
- Sliding of the Filaments
what are Monosynaptic Reflexes?
The processing of information without “using” the brain
reflexes are protective
how does the information to react travel through the body?
comes from a sensory neuron then goes to the spinal cord and then to a motor neuron to react
what are 2 examples of reflexes
- Knee Jerk reflex
2. light response in flatworm
