Anerobic and aerobic exercise Flashcards
Where is glucose stored
Glucose is stored in the liver and your muscles
What two components are need for physical activity
Glucose and oxygen are brought to the muscles in the blood
What activities are usually short but intense
Anaerobic
Examples of anaerobic sports
Sprinting and weight lifting
Glucose
A major source of energy for most cells in the body
Aerobic respiration
The process of releasing energy from glucose, using oxygen
Anaerobic respiration
The process of releasing energy from glucose, without oxygen
Aerobic exercise
Working at a moderate intensity allowing the body time to utilise oxygen for energy production and to work for a continuous period, e.g. long-distance events.
Lactic acid
A colourless acid produced in muscle tissues during strenuous exercise when the body is exercising anaerobically at high intensity.
Cramp
Painful involuntary contraction of a muscle usually caused by fatigue
Complex carbohydrates
For example starch is found in natural foods such as bananas, brown rice, whole meal bread, whole meal pasta, nuts and potatoes
Simple carbohydrates
Such as glucose and fructose are stored in their natural form in fruit and vegetables in their refined form in biscuits, cake and chocolates
How long should you eat before a match
And what type of meal
You should eat a light meal high in carbohydrates, at least two hours before training or match
Stroke volume
Is the amount of blood pumped by the heart during each beat. This will increase this will increase during physical output
