Anatomy quiz 2 Flashcards
The study of cells
Cytology
Start with the same cell then divide into differentiated specific types of cells
Cell differentitation
Consists of phospholipids and embedded proteins
Cell membrane
The area between the plasm membrane and nuclues, where most METABOLIC reactions/activities take place
Cytoplasm
Structures within the cell that perform specific functions.
Organelles
Complex system of canals and channels
Endoplasmic reticulum
Where ribosomes are located
Rough ER
Ribosomes make
Protein
No ribosomes, where lipid synthesis takes place
Smooth ER
Package and deliver proteins produced by the ribosomes
Golgi apparatus
Proteins are exported in
Vesicles
Energy from food is converted into ATp.
This processes is called cellular respiration, requires glucose (food) and oxygen.
Mitochandria
Contain enzymes; somtimes called suicide sac. Break down substances in the cell, such as food or worn out cell parts, even bacteria.
Lysosomes
Composed of 2 “cylinders” which lie perpendicular to each other involved in and during cell divisiong - centrioles form a spindle
Centrosomes
Made of microtubles and microfilaments that give the cell support and shape.
Cytoskeleton
Directs the activities of a cell. Contains gentic information.
Nucleus
No energy required
Passive transport
Requires energy
Active transport
Molecules move from an ares of high concentration to an area of low concentration
Diffusion (passive)
Molecules diffuse through a membrane with the help of passageways.
Facilitated diffusion (passive)
Basic unit of structure and function in an organism
Cell
a group of similar cells
Tissue
Type of tissue that serves primarily as a covering or lining of body parts, protecting the body
Epithelial tissue
Microscopic study of tissue architecture, organization, and function
Histology
Type of tissue that is capable of contracting and generating tension in response to stimulation; procedures movement
Muscle tissue
Type of tissue that serves to hold in place, connect, and integrate the body’s organ and systems
Connective tissue
Type of tissue that is capable of sending and recieving impulses through electrochemical signals.
Nervous tissue
