Anatomy of the Dural Venous Sinuses Flashcards
what are the dural partitions ?
FTFD
Falx cerebri
Tentorium cerebelli
Falx cerebelli
Diaphragma sellae
where are the sagittal sinuses located , and what do they drain ?
1) falx cerebri , drain the superior cerebral veins, and the superior sagittal sinus —> confluence of sinuses –> right transverse sinus
2) inferior sagittal sinus —>lower border of the falx cerebri –>straight sinus –> left Transverse sinus
what is the confluence of sinuses made of ?
SSOT
1) Superior sagittal
2) Straight
3) Occipital
4) Transverse s
what is the path to the jugular vein , at the jugular foramen ?
(3)
from the confluence of sinus–> R/L transverse sinuses–>R/L sigmoid Sinuses –>Internal jugular vein at jugular foramen
where are the superficial petrosal sinuses ?
1) in the margin of Tentorium Cerebelli In superior border of the petrous part of the temporal bone
Where are the internal petrosal sinuses located ?
between which 2 bones of the skull ?
1)groove between petrous part of the temporal bone and occipital bone
where are the cavernous sinuses ?
either side of the sella turicica , connected by the inter cavernous sinus
Tributaries from :
- superior and inferior ophthalmic veins
-Spheno-parietal sinuses
what are the 4 ventricles of the brain
4th ventricle
3rd ventricle
Lateral ventricles
CSF role ?
(4)
where is it made?
made in choroid plexus
which is found in the floor of each lateral ventricle.
- support and cushion the Brain
-similar to lymph system
-subarachnoid space + ventricular cavities
-reabsorbed by the arachnoids granulations
what is the flow of CSF in the brain
8
1) Choroid plexus in lateral ventricles
2) Interventricular foramen of monro
3) 3rd ventricle
4) Cerebral aqueduct of Sylvius
5) 4th ventricle
6) Spinal Canal , lateral and median apertures
7) subarachnoid space
