Anatomy Of Oesophagus Flashcards
The oesophagus is a fibromuscular tube, approximately —-cm in length that transports food from the pharynx to the stomach.
•It originates at the inferior border of the —-and extends to the ——
The oesophagus is a fibromuscular tube, approximately 25cm in length that transports food from the pharynx to the stomach.
•It originates at the inferior border of the cricoid cartilage (C6) and extends to the cardiac orifice of the stomach (T11).
Oesophagus
•The abdominal portion of the oesophagus is approximately ——cm long.
•It enters the abdomen through the oesophageal opening of the diaphragm situated at the level of vertebra —-, slightly to the — side of the median plane.
Oesophagus
•The abdominal portion of the oesophagus is approximately 1.25cm long.
•It enters the abdomen through the oesophageal opening of the diaphragm situated at the level of vertebra T10, slightly to the left of the median plane.
Abdominal oesophagus
• Lies slightly left of median plane
• Related to the —— surface of the
left lobe of the liver
• Right border is continuous with —- & left ends in the ——
• Covered by —— anteriorly.
• Posteriorly lie on the ——- and ——
Abdominal oesophagus
• Lies slightly left of median plane
• Related to the posterior surface of the
left lobe of the liver
• Right border is continuous with lesser curvature & left ends in the cardiac notch
• Covered by peritoneum anteriorly.
• Posteriorly lie on the left crus of diaphragm and left inferior phrenic artery
The arterial supply of oesophagus
Left gastric artery
Left inferior phrenic artery
Venous drainage of oesophagus
Portal circulation- left gastric vein
Systemic circulation- azygous vein
These 2 routes form the Porto-systemic anastomosis
The abdominal oesophagus ends opening into the cardiac end of the stomach at the level of vertebra T11, about —-cm to the left of the median plane.
opening into the cardiac end of the stomach at the level of vertebra T11, about 2.5 cm to the left of the median plane.
Explain the course of the oesophagus
Oesophagus
•The oesophagus runs downwards and to the left in front of
the left crus of the diaphragm and of the inferior surface of the left lobe of the liver, and ends by opening into the cardiac end of the stomach at the level of vertebra T11, about 2.5 cm to the left of the median plane.
• Its right border is continuous with the lesser curvature of the stomach, but the left border is separated from the fundus of the stomach by the cardiac notch.
• Peritoneum covers the oesophagus only anteriorly and on the left side.
The oesophageal opening also transmits——,——-,——
The oesophageal opening also transmits the anterior and posterior gastric nerves, the oesophageal branches of the left gastric artery and the accompanying veins.
Nerve supply of oesophagus
Sympathetic greater splanchnic nerve
Parasympathetic vagus nerve
