Anatomy Lecture 2_Nervous System Flashcards
What is gray matter composed of?
Cell bodies
What is white matter composed of?
Mylinated nerve tracts
What kind of signal is propigated through the posterior horn?
Afferent signals (sensory)
What kind of signal is propigated through the anterior horn?
Efferent signals (motor)
List the three meninges
1) Pia Mater
2) Arachnoid Mater
3) Dura Mater
Where does CSF exist?
In the sub arachnoid space between the arachnoid mater and the pia mater.

What is the difference between a root and a ramus
A root only contains afferent or efferent nerves. A ramus is mixed nerve containing both afferent and efferent nerves that splits from the spinal nerve after the roots have combined
What signals are carried by the anterior root?
Somatic Afferent (sensory signals back to the brain)
What signals are carried by the Posterior root?
Somatic Efferent (motor signals to muscles)
Describe the posterior ramus
a mixed nerve that split from the spinal nerve to innervate the intrinsic muscles of the back
Describe the anterior ramus
a mixed nerve that innervates everything not innervated by the posterior ramus
