Q

What forms the superficial inguinal ring?

A

It is formed by the aponurosis of the external obliques where it forms the ingunal ligament

Q

What forms the cremaster muscle. What nerve innervates it?

A

The cremaster muscle is formed from fibers of the Internal oblique. It is innervated by the genital branch of genitofemoral nerve

Q

What forms Dartos Muscle? What innervates it?

A

Membranouse (Scarpa’s) Facia. It is innervated by sympathetics running with ilioinguinal and posterior
scrotal nerves

Q

What is a Gubernaculum

A

During development, it is a ligament type structure that connects the developing gonads to the skin. It provides the path that the gonads will follow as they decend from up by the kidneys to their final location in the scrotum (for men)

Q

How is the space for the decending testie created

A

The parietal peritoneum pushes out a fingerlike projection into the other tissues. This creates the tissue layers of the scrotum and provides a space for the testie as it travles down the gubernaculum

Q

What are the 5 things that can contribute to sub inguinal herrnias

A
  • Erect posture
  • Increased intra-abdominal pressure
  • Persistence of processus vaginalis
  • Muscular deficiency
  • Tissue abnormality

Q

Where do Direct Inguinal hernias occure? What causes them

A

The occure in the medial inguinal fossa
(Hesselbach’s triangle). They result from the fact that below the arcuate line, the posterior rectus sheath is only composed of the perital peritinium and the transversalis facia.

16
Q

What is a Femoral hernia

A

It is a hernia that occures below the inguinal
ligament through femoral ring
next to femoral vessels

17
Q

When does a direct hernia become dangerous?

A

When it causes bowl to pass through the superficial inguinal ring
