Q

What are venue comitantes?

A

Most big arteries have 2 veins running on either side called venae comitantes (accompanying veins)

21
Q

What are the roots of the brachial plexus?

A

C5, C6, C7, C8, T1

22
Q

What is the trunk formed from C5 and C6 in the brachial plexus?

A

Upper trunk

23
Q

What is the trunk formed from C7 in the brachial plexus?

A

Middle

24
Q

What is the trunk formed from C8 and T1 in the brachial plexus?

A

Lower

25
Q

What do all the trunks of the brachial plexus divide into?

A

Anterior and posterior division

26
Q

What are the 3 cords of the brachial plexus?

A

Lateral
Posterior
Medial

27
Q

What forms the lateral cord of the brachial plexus?

A

Anterior branches of the upper and middle trunks (C5, 6 and 7)

28
Q

What forms the posterior cord of the brachial plexus?

A

All of the posterior division (C5 - T1)

29
Q

What forms the medial cord of the brachial plexus?

A

The anterior division of the lower trunk (C8 and T1)

30
Q

How are the cords of the brachial plexus named?

A

According to their location to the brachia artery

31
Q

What shape do the branches of the medial and lateral cords of the brachial plexus make?

A

An M shape

32
Q

What is another name for Erb’s palsy?

A

Waiter’s tip

33
Q

What happens during Erb’s Palsy/ waiter’s tip?

A

Paralysis of the arm due to injury to the upper group of the arm’s main nerves (specifically the upper trunk - C5 - C6) - usually occurs during a difficult birth - paralysis can either resolve on its own over a period of months or through rehab and surgery

34
Q

What is Klumpke’s paralysis?

A

Form of paralysis involving the muscles of the forearm and hand resulting from a brachial plexus injury which damages C8 and T1

35

37
Q

What vessels in the upper limb are extremely variable?

A

Superficial veins

38
Q

What covers articular surfaces in joints?

A

Articular cartilage (normally hyaline cartilage although there are exceptions e.g. fibrocartilage in TMJ)

39
Q

What surrounds a joint, lines the capsule (on the inside) and secretes synovial fluid?

A

Synovial membrane aka synovium

40
Q

What surrounds a synovial joint?

A

A capsule

41
Q

What surrounds the capsule of a synovial joint?

A

Ligaments

42
Q

See diagram 6

A

See diagram 6

43
Q

What 3 major factors stabilise a joint?

A

Ligaments (including capsule)
Muscle tone
Shape of the articular surfaces

44
Q

What branches come off the lateral cord of the branchial?

A
Musculocutaneous
Median (along with medial cord)
45
Q

What branches come off the posterior cord of the brachial plexus?

A

Axillary

Radial

46
Q

What branches come off the medial cord of the brachial plexus?

A
Ulnar
Median (along with lateral cord)
