Anatomy Dissection 3 - Hip Joint and Posterior Thigh (muscles in separate FCs) Flashcards
What is the spinal roots of the sciatic nerve?
L4 - S3
What does the sciatic nerve supply?
The muscles in the posterior compartment of the thigh and through its division also supplies the muscles within all the compartments of the leg and the intrinsic muscles of the foot
What does the sciatic nerve divide into?
The tibial nerve and common fibular nerve
Where can the sciatic nerve divide?
Anywhere between the gluteal region and the popliteal fossa
Where does the sciatic nerve most commonly divide?
Inferior 1/3 rd of thigh
What is the name of the socket of the hip joint in which the head of the femur fits?
Acetabulum
What is the acetabular labrum?
Ring of cartilage surrounding the acetabulum of the hip
What is the purpose of the acetabular labrum?
Increases the depth of the acetabulum
What attaches the femur to the depth of acetabulum?
The ligament of the head of the femur
What can happen to the ligament of the head of the femur during dislocation?
It can rupture
What runs within the ligament of the head of the femur?
The artery of the head of the femur (provides only a very minimal supply of oxygenated blood to the head of the juvenile femur becoming obliterated in the adult
What’s the name of the fold of deep fascia that separates the anterior and posterior compartments of the thigh?
Lateral intermuscular septum of the thigh
What are the names of the 3 ligaments that are an integral part of the fibrous capsule of the hip joint?
Ileofemoral ligament
Pubofemoral ligament
Ischiofemoral ligament
