What are the superior and inferior boundaries of the gluteal region?
Superior - Iliac crest
Inferior - Gluteal fold/sulcus
What are the lateral and medial borders of the gluteal region?
Medial -The intergluteal cleft
Lateral - Greater trochanter of the femur
What are the 3 superficial gluteal muscles?
Gluteus maximus
Gluteus medius
Gluteus minimus
Which is the most superficial of the gluteal muscles?
Gluteus Maximus
What does the gluteus maximus attach to?
Iliac crest
Sacrum
Sacrotuberous ligament
Coccyx
What is the most powerful extensor of the hip?
Gluteus Maximus
Where do the gluteus medius and minimus attach?
External/Posterior/Gluteal aspect of the ilium and the anterolateral aspect of the greater trochanter of the femur
What supplies the gluteus medius and minimus?
Superior gluteal nerve (L5, S1, S2)
What is in the Inferior gluteal neurovascular bundle?
Inferior gluteal artery, vein and nerve (L5,S1,S2)
What does the inferior gluteal neurovascular bundle supply?
Gluteus Maximus
Where is the IGNB located?
Deep to the gluteus maxumus
What does the superior gluteal neurovascular bundle contain?
Superior gluteal artery, vein and nerve (L5,S1,S2)
What does the SGNB supply?
Gluteus medius and minimus
Where is the SGNB located?
Deep to the gluteus medius
