Anatomy Dissection 1 - The femoral triangle Flashcards
What is the superior border of the femoral triangle?
Inguinal Ligament
What is the Lateral border of the femoral triangle?
Sartorius
What is the medial border of the femoral triangle?
Adductor longus
What is the floor of the femoral triangle?
Iliopsoas and pectineus
What is the roof of the femoral triangle?
Deep fascia
From lateral to medial what are the contents of the femoral triangle?
Femoral Nerve
Femoral Artery
Femoral Vein
Lymphatics (Deep inguinal lymph nodes)
What envelopes the femoral artery and vein?
The femoral sheath
What is the femoral sheath made of?
Short tube of transversalis and iliopsoas fascia from the adominal
Where does the femoral nerve originate?
L2,3,4
Where is the femoral nerve formed?
The Lumbar plexus
What is the route of the saphenous nerve?
Branches from the femoral nerve to leave the adductor canal distally by passing between sartorius and gracilus
What does the saphenous nerve supply?
The fascia and skin of the anteromedial aspects of the knee and leg and medial aspect of the foot
What is contained in the femoral canal?
Deep inguinal lymph nodes
Adipose tissue
How do the deep inguinal nodes run?
In a chain in the femoral canal medial to the femoral vein
What supplies the majority of blood to the head of the femur and through what branches?
Medial and lateral circumflex femoral arteries through the retinacular branches
What artery do the medial and lateral circumflex femoral arteries come from?
Profunda femoris
Where does the inguinal ligament run from?
ASIS
Pubic tubercle
What does the inguinal canal contain in males and females?
Males - spermatic cord
Females - round ligament
How do the femoral vessels, nerve and iliopsoas exit the lower limb?
Deep to the inguinal ligament in the retroinguinal space
Where can the inguinal ligament be palpated in dissection?
The junction between the external oblique aponeurosis and deep fascia of the thigh (fascia lata)
What is the spinal root tested in the knee jerk?
L2-4
What are the medial thigh muscles?
Gracilis
Adductors brevis, longus and magnus
The muscles of the medial thigh are innervated by which nerve/
Obturator
What are the three nerves that provide sensory innvervation of the thigh/
The anterior cutaneous nerve of the thigh, which is a branch of the femoral nerve (L2-L4)
The lateral cutaneous nerve of the thigh, which is a branch of the lumbosacral plexus (L2-3)
The cutaneous branch of the obturator nerve (L2-4)
