Anatomy And Functions Of The Heart Flashcards
What is the composition of the pericardium?
It contains the double lining of the paricardial cavity It contains the visceral and parietal pericardium
What is the parietal pericardium?
It’s the outer layer and it forms the inner layer of the pericardial sac
What is the purpose of the pericardial sac?
It’s fibrous tissue that surrounds and stabilizes the heart
What is the visceral pericardium?
It’s the inner layer of the pericardium
What are the 3 types of blood vessels?
Arteries
Veins
Capillaries
What is the purpose of the capillaries?
They network the blood between veins and arteries
What is another name for the capillaries?
Exchange Vessels
What is another name for the capillaries?
Exchange Vessels
Why are capillaries called exchange vessels
They exchanged materials between blood and tissues and sometimes dissolved gasses, nutrients and waste
What is the anatomy of the heart?
It has 4 chambers and is supplied by coronary circulation, pumps O2 poor blood to lungs and O2 rich blood to rest of the body
What are the chambers of the heart?
Right Atrium
Right ventricle
Left Atrium
Left Ventricle
What is the purpose of the Left Atrium?
It collects blood from the syatemic circulation
What does the right ventricle do?
It pumps blood to Pulmonary circuit
What does the right ventricle do?
It pumps blood to Pulmonary circuit
What does the left Atrium do?
Collects blood from Pulmonary circuit
What does the Left ventricle do?
Pumps blood to system circuit
What is the Pulmonary circuit?
It carries blood to and from the gas exchange surfaces of the lungs
What is the systemic circuit?
It carries blood to and from the body
What is the purpose of the capillaries?
They exchange blood and tissues materials(such as nutrients, waste and dissolved gasses)
What is the anatomy of the heart?
Great veins and arteries at the base of the heart
It has an apex, which is a pointed tip
And around the heart is a pericardial sac
And the heart is between 2 pleural cavities in the mediastinum
What is the surface anatomy of the heart?
Contains Atria and
Sulci
How is the atria?
It has thin walls and has an atrial appendage (expendable auricle)
What is the purpose of the coronary sulcus?
It divides the atria and ventricles
What are the two types of sulci?
The Anterior and Posterior interventricular sulcus
What is the sulci composed of?
Blood vessels of cardiac muscle
What are the 3 layers if the heart wall?
Epicardium
Myocardial
Endocardium
What is the Epicardium?
It’s the outer layer of the heart wall and contains visceral pericardium and covers the heart
What is the composition of the myocardium?
It’s the middle layer of the heart wall and has concentric layers of cardiac muscle tissue
And has 2 divisions of ventricular myocardium and an atrial myocardium that wraps around great vessels
What does endocardium contain?
Simple squamous epithelium
What is the purpose of the cardiac muscle tissue?
To connect cardiac muscle cells
Propagation of action potentials
And convey force of contraction
What is the interartiral septum?
It separates the atria
What is the purpose of the atrioventricular valves?
Connect right Atrium to right ventricle
What do the fibrous flaps of the valves form?
2 bicuspid and 3 tricuspid valves
What’s the purpose of the cuspid valves?
To allow blood flow in one direction from the atria to the ventricle
