Main Action of Anterior Fascial Compartment of Leg
Extension of the toes and foot Dorsiflexion
Main function of Lateral Fascial Compartment of Leg
Eversion and Plantar flexion of foot. Also, these muscles support the lateral longitudinal arch of the foot.
What muscles of
Lateral Fascial Compartment of Leg
Muscles: Peroneus longus (Superficial) and brevis (Deep).
2. Origin: Lateral surface of the fibula.
3. Insertion:
a. Peroneus longus: Medial cuneiform and base of 1st Metatarsal. b. Peroneus brevis: Base of 5th Metatarsal.
4. Nerve Supply: Superficial peroneal nerve.
Superficial Group of Posterior Fascial Compartment of Leg
Main function
Gastrocnemius: Medial and Lateral condyles of femur.
b. Soleus: Tibia and Fibula.
c. Plantaris: Posterior femur.
- All of them insert into the calcaneus of the foot (the heel bone), via the calcaneal tendon (Achilles tendon).
- All of them plantarflex the foot.
What the type of talocrural joint
hinge synovial joint formed by bones of the leg (tibia and fibula) and the foot (talus).
Calcaneus is roughly cuboidal in shape, having 6 surfaces.
On superior-anterior aspect there is medial horizontal eminence called sustentaculum tali, attaches to the tendon of the Tibialis posterior Muscle.
Superior Surface of the Calcaneus has 2 parts:
Superior Surface of the Calcaneus has 2 parts:
Convex attach
a. 1/3 posteriorly to Achilis.
b. 2/3’s anteriorly that articulate with the inferior surface of the talus bone.
Structures passing behind LM superficial to Superior Peroneal Retinaculum (M→L):
Sural nerve. 2. Small Saphenous vein.
