Q

The ischial spine

A

The ischial spine projects from the posterior border of the ischium. It intervenes between greater and lesser sciatic notches.

Q

WHAT ARE THE BORDERS OF PELVIC INLET?

WHAT ABOUT THE PELVIC OUTLET?

A

The junction between the greater and lesser pelvis is known as pelvic inlet. The outer bony edges of the pelvic inlet are called the pelvic brim.

• Anteriorly: Symphysis pubis.
• Lateral: Iliopectineal (arcuate) lines.
• Posteriorly: Promontry and ala of sacrum.

Pelvic Outlet
Pelvic outlet is located at the end of lesser pelvis, and is covered by the pelvic diaphragm. Its borders are:
• Posterior: Tip of the coccyx.
• Lateral: Ischial tuberosities.
• Anterior: Pubic arch.

Q

What the fibers of the capsule has?

A

Longitudinal fibers and Circular (Zona Orbicularis) fibers.

17
Q

WHAT ARE LIGAMENTS OF THE HIP JOINT?

A

. Iliofemoral: arises from anterior inferior iliac spine (apex) and then bifurcates to insert into Greater and Lesser trochanters and Intertrochanteric line (base).
- It has a ‘Y’ shaped appearance, and prevents hyperextension of the hip joint. It is the strongest of the three ligaments.
2. Pubofemoral: arises from superior pubic rami and inserts into lesser trochanter, reinforcing capsule anteriorly and inferiorly.
- It has a triangular shape, and prevents excessive abduction and extension.
3. Ischiofemoral: It arises from the posteroinferior margin of the acetabular rim, passes laterally to the capsule and blends with the circular fibres of the capsule, the zona orbicularis. It reinforces the capsule posteriorly.
- It has a spiral orientation, and prevents hyperextension and holds the femoral head in the acetabulum
