By 1935 30.5 million acres of land were taken out of production

Industrial recovery by putting young men to work. Supervised by army, men would live in camps and work on civil engineering jobs and looking after national parks.
What did the CCC achieve?
CCC lasted until 1942 - in all 3 million young men took part
- 125,000 miles of road were built
- 46,854 bridges
- 3 billion trees planted

What were the aims of FERA?
- Relief, and employment
- Allocated an initial fund of $500,000 to help those in need
- Money went to Home Relief Bureaus and Departments of Welfare for Poor Relief
What did FERA achieve?
- Built 5,000 public buildings and 7,000 bridges
- Employed teachers and over 1.5 million adults were taught to read and write
What was the NRA?
National (Industrial) Recovery Agency
What were the aims of the NRA?
- Industrial Recovery and setting codes of practice that businesses had to abide by
- Section 7a which allowed Trade Unions to bargain for better conditions
What did the NRA achieve?
- Created between 1,750,000 and 1,900,000 workers by 1934
- Although the NRA issued 557 codes of practice many proved unworkable

Public Works Administration

What were the aims of the PWA?
- Industrial Recovery
- $3.3 billion to be spent on things such as roads, dams, hospitals and schools
- Hoped that this would lead to an increase in the demand for supplies from feeder industries which in turn would create more jobs and lead to more employment
What did the PWA achieve?
- 13,000 schools were built along with 50,000 miles of road
- But in 1933 only $110 million was spent

As part of FERA - set up as an extension of the PWA for the very harsh winter of 1933-34 to provide more employment
What did the CWA achieve?
- Hugely successful
- Employed around 4 million including 50,000 teacher in order to keep school open
- Put $700 million into circulation

To help modernise and relieve suffering in the poorest southern states of USA
What did the TVA achieve?
- 20 huge dams built to generate hydro electricity
- Residents of the area saw their income increase by 200% in the period 1929 to 1949.
