What are the colour catagories?

A

Temporary - lasts one wash
Midway (colour touch) - lasts 15-40 washes
Permanant (Koleston perfect) - lasts until the hair grows out and then you get roots and the client gets embarrassed and comes back and pays you more money to do it again.
Decolouring product - Takes away colour, by bleach powder or creme lightener

Name the three forms of Non-Oxidative Temporary Colour

A

Water base - no holding properties. E.g. Purple shp
Spirit base - has hold and can be used as product before blow dry
Aerosole - like hairspray

What to consider when choosing a temp colour

A

Client wishes - can we achieve what they want?
Natural base shade - you can’t lighten with temp colour
% of grey - Some bright / fashion colours may grab on grey and go lighter, (so red on grey goes pink)
Porosity - colours may grab on porous hair

How do we check client base shade?

A
  1. Lift hair from scalp + look
  2. Hold colour chart to root and match the swatch to the natural colour
  3. Ensure the hair is clean,dry and view in well lit area
  4. Check colour in three different areas of the head

Temporary Colour Application process

A

Precautions: Read+ follow manufacturers instructions (skin test if needed)
Protection - towel and cape
Preperation - Shampoo and condition to remove any oil. Thorough towel dry to avoid diluting the colour
Application - Apply at back, from roots to ends evenly and work forward combing through

Semi-permanent application process

A

Preperation - shampoo to remove oil, thorough towel dry
Application - Apply colour with either damp sponge or tint brush, start at the most resistant area, apply evenly from roots to ends, go over rest of head, comb with Wide Tooth Comb, follow manufacture instructions (10-15mins)
