Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
Most common form of pediatric leukemia
Symptoms include fatigue, bone pain, pallor, shortness of breath, infections, easy bruising, lymphadenopathy, and anemia
Patients present with anemia and thrombocytopenia
ALL Risk Factors
Radiation exposure Down syndrome Fanconi's Anemia Viral infections EBV Human T cell lymphoma/leukemia virus Sibling or twin with ALL
Precusor B Cell
Most common ALL
t(1;19) associated with poor prognosis
TdT positive in Pro-B and intermediate Pre-B
Precursor T Cell
WBC count over 50
Lymphadenopathy and organomegaly
Diagnosis of ALL
> 30% lymphoblasts
L1: lymphoblasts, common in pediatrics
L2: lymphoblasts, variable chromatin pattern, irregular shape, one or more nucleoli
L3: lymphoblasts, dark blue cytoplasm, often with vacuoles
ALL Therapy
Remission induction/induction therapy
CNS prophylactic therapy
Maintenance or consolidation therapy
