Q

Why is there no rotation around a c=c bond ?

A

The pi bond formed by overlap of p orbitals
C=c are made from pi and sigma bond
If there was any rotation p orbitals would no longer overlap and the pi bond would break

Q

How to tell if molecule is major or minor

A

Molecule made from tertiary carbocation which is more stable than secondary/ primary carbocation due to greater positive inductive effect as greater alkyl groups

Q

Explain why bromine molecules react with the double bond in Alkenes

A

Bromine is a non polar molecule
The c=c has a high electron density/ is electron rich
This indices a dipole in bromine
The delta + is attracted to c=c double bond

Q

Stereoisomers

A

Same structure formula but different arrangement of atoms in space
No rotation around c=c bond
Each carbon of the bond has two different group
