What is functional ability? and what are the two concepts it involves?

A

comprises the health related attributes that enable ppl to do and be what they value. involves intrinsic capacity; physical and mental capacities of the person. and environments; the extrinsic factors in the world that form the context of an individuals life. The goal is to maximize fxnl ability with age.

What influences health in older age?

A

Individual; behaviours, PA, diet, sleep, habits, substance use. age-related changes, loss of bone density and mm mass. genetics, driving factor in how long someone lives. disease, risk involved can be due to genetic factors. Environmental; housing. assistive technologies, glasses, dentures, walking aids. transport. social facilities.

A

outdated and ageist stereotypes, inadequate policies, inadequate or absent services, lack of accessibility, lack of consultation and involvment of OAs.

A

creates a future for OAs to live lives previous generations could’ve never imagined. if we invest in health systems, long-term care, lifelong learning, age-friendly enviros, social protection, in return we get; individual well being, workforce participation, consumption, entrepreneurship and investment, innovation, social and cultural contribution, social cohesion.

we want to increase/keep up fxnl ability and intrinsic capacity. do so by preventing chronic conditions and slowing the decline. want to promote enhancing behaviours and ensure OAs can live dignified lives.
