AFCS II Flashcards
What’s FLCH mode?
Will climb or descend to the altitude selected according to the speed selected by varying pitch
During FLCH mode what will the FMA display
SPDE
During FLCH mode what will the FMA display
SPDE
What’s ALT mode?
When selected, holds the current (not pre-selected) altitude.
If ATC asks for an immediate levelof, this button can be pressed to stop a climb or descent.
What is VS?
will fly the manually selected climb/descent rate
What’s OVSP
will indicate when you are overspeeding
What happens when overspeed protection activates
Amber OVSP indication displays on the FMA
The previous active mode is displayed as armed white and becomes active again when OVSP protection is no longer active
What is GS
Tracking the Glideslope and will ignore altitude pre-select
What’s GA
A/T sets go around thrust
What’s GP
LPV WAAS vertical guidance will ignore altitude pre-select
What’s PTH?
PTH is BARO-derived (from the altimeter) and GP may be GPS derived (from satellites), they may be different, especially when hot or cold.
What’s SPDe
rate of climb/descent will vary to hold speed only in FLCH
During FLCH mode what will the FMA display?
SPDE
What’s SPDT
The autothrottle mode associated with FPA is SPDT (speed is controlled by adjusting thrust).
What is LIM
Throttles move to hold bugged airspeed
A/T limitation on T/O?
Ensure A/T is in TO/GA prior to 60 knots to not get an EICAS message
When will A/T engage on ground? Flight?
Ground: No faults, armed, and TLAs past 50 degrees Flight: No faults, A/T pressed, and at or above 400 AGL
Understand Manual Speeds vs FMS speeds
Manual speeds allow the pilot to directly control speed by using the speed selector. FMS speeds is controlled by referencing the MCDU and will follow constraints in the Flight Plan
How does FMS speed pick which speed to fly?
Constraints. Will honor slowest speed programmed and limits
Where does the FMS tell you what speed is selected?
Flight Plan on the MDCU.
Understand Green Dot (define, operational use)
Green Dot is a continuously calculated speed based on weight, altitude and configuration
1.3g above shaker with 40 degrees bank protection
Single Engine Driftdown speed
Flap Extension Speed
Approach speed during an emergency
Green + 10 k to retract flaps if F-bug disappears
What will happen when TCS is pressed on? Off?
• Press and Hold the TCS:
• Synchronizes the Flight Director with the current airplane attitude.
• Release the TCS:
• The Flight Director returns to the lateral and vertical selection when the TCS was pressed.
• With Roll/VS/FPA modes the FD maintains the airplane attitude when the TCS is released.
• Autopilot interface with the AP/FD button:
• If the AP is engaged, pressing and holding the TCS will momentarily override the AP. Releasing the TCS, the AP resumes airplane control.
