AFCS Flashcards
What does Roll mode maintain?
If Bank angle at 6 degrees = airplane will level
If Bank angle 6-35 degrees = AP will hold current angle
If Bank angle greater than 35 degrees = AP will roll back to 35 degrees
What bank angle does BANK limit you to?
15 degrees airplane needs to be in HDG mode
What is TRACK mode?
Arms when TOGA is pressed in flight. plane takes a snapshot and draws a line out and will fly that track
What lateral mode is used for takeoff and go around
TRACK
When will automatic transition from ROLL to TRACK occur during takeoff?
IAS is greater than 100 kts
Bank angle is at 3 degrees or below for more than 10 seconds
Which lateral mode is armed when TOGA is pressed in flight
TRACK
What does HDG mode do?
Will just hold the heading selected
What does LNAV do?
Will fly along the course plugged in to the MCDU
How do you select LNAV on the guidance panel?
Press NAV button
What becomes the source for lateral navigation when LNAV mode is selected?
The FMS
What is LOC mode?
Will track localizer course
How do you select LOC on the guidance Panel?
By pressing the APP button
What’s the widest bank angle for localizer capture
35 degrees
What does hold mode do?
A/T servos disengage so that we can reject a T/O easier
What does FPA do?
FPA commands a specific flight path angle (not pitch, but the vertical path of the aircraft relative to the horizon).
FPA is used for LOC approaches to maintain a constant angle of descent
Which is the default vertical mode
FPA
When will FPA become active?
When the autopilot is engaged and no FD mode is active or
Pressing the FPA button on the guidance panel or
A lateral mode is activated and there is no vertical mode active or
Deselecting the current vertical mode
What is TO mode
Vertical Navigation is in T/O Phase
What’s VNAV mode
changes vertical mode from green to magenta and will fly the profile in the MCDU
What’s ASEL mode?
ASEL means it is shallowing the climb for a smooth level off
