What aspects of assessment are specific to alcohol?
Note any history of Alcohol related seizures, Delirium Tremens, Alcohol psychosis, haematemesis, melaena ?
What are the specific examinations for alcohol?
Comment on the presence of jaundice, anaemia, clubbing, cyanosis, oedema, ascites, lymphadenopathy, DVT

Fibro scan / Ultrasound
Bloods (LFT, GGT, Lipids, U&E, amylase)

Don’t forget Endogenous ENDORPHINS also regulate pain & mood, vs Exogenous DRUGS
Opioid receptors mu, delta, kappa effected by opioid agonists (heroin, methadone, fentanyl, codeine), partial agonists (Buprenorphine), antagonists (Naltrexone)
What is the difference between opioids and opiates?

How many people die of opioid use in the UK?
There were 4,359 deaths from drug poisoning in 2018
This is up 16% from the previous year and is the highest annual increase since records began in 1993
Deaths amongst men increased from 89.6 per million in 2017 to 105.4 per million in 2018 - two thirds of these were linked to the misuse of drugs
