Acute Responses (Chapter 6) Flashcards
Heart Rate
How many times the heart beats per minute
Stroke Volume
the amount of blood ejected by the left ventricle per beat
Cardiac Output
the amount of blood pumped out of the heart per minute
Blood Pressure
force exerted against the artery walls by the blood
Systolic Blood Pressure
pressure in the arteries following contraction of ventricle as blood is pumped out of the heart
Diastolic Blood Pressure
pressure in the arteries when the heart relaxes and ventricles fill with blood
Vasodilation
an increase in the diameter of the blood vessel
Vasoconstriction
a decrease in diameter of the blood vessel
Respiratory Rate
the number of breathes per minute
Tidal Volume
the amount of air inspired or expired per breath
Ventilation
the amount of air breathed in or out per minute
Ventilation equation
V= TV x RR
Maximum 02 uptake
maximum amount of oxygen that can taken in, transported and used by the body
Excess post-exercise oxygen consumption
oxygen supply exceeds demand
Lactate inflection point
the exercise intensity beyond which lactate production exceeds removal rate
