Acute Coronary Syndrome Flashcards
How are ACSs classified?
ST elevation
- STEMI
- aborted MI
Non ST elevation
- NSTEMI
- Unstable angina
What is a type 1 MI?
Atheroscletotic plaque rupture resulting in intraluminal thrombus
Decreased myocardial blood flow
What is a type 2 MI?
Any other condition that results in an imbalance between myocardial oxygen supply and demand
What can cause a type 2 MI?
Tachyarrhythmias
Heart failure
Aortic dissection
Respiratory failure
What is a type 3 MI?
MI resulting in death when biomarkers not available
What is a type 4 MI?
MI related to PCI
What is a type 5 MI?
MI related to coronary artery bypass surgery
What are investigations for a suspected MI?
ECG
Troponin
Coronary angiogram
Chest X-ray
U+Es
Echocardiogram
What is troponin?
Protein released in myocardial damage
Which types of troponin are measured?
I
T
When does troponin peak?
24 hours
