Anxiolytic drugs aka
anti anxiety
Anxiolytic drug names
-zine, -pine: Thorazine, chlorpromazine, benzodiapzepine, haldol
Anxiolytic drug effects
schizo -> aimless wandering -> Tremor (pseudo parkinsonism) -> tardive dyskinesia (extra motion before intended motion)
Tranquilizers
Entry level anti anxiety drugs, librium and valium: causes falls in elderly.
Psilocybin
Hallucinogenic mushroom (sprinkled in street drugs)
Muscarine
poisonous mushroom (mistaken for food)
Blood thinners caution
Internal hemorrage is potential concern, avoid Vit K1

Heparin, coumadin, warfarin, asprin, dicumerol, Vit C &E “-ins thin the blood”
Barbituates
“Sleeping pill”, respiratory depressant, constrict pupils (miosis)
Organophosphates
Insecticide, blocks cholinesterase, sauses runny eyes and nose, salavate, lacrimate, urinate, defecate = SLUD
Atropine
antidote for organiphosphates and carbamates, too much causes dry eyes, nose, mouth
Anabolic steroids
causes liver damage, and early epiphyseal plate closure in children
Carbon tetrachloride and choloform
causes acute liver failure (even if inhaled)
cyanide
low head while firing pottery, vomit, stops electron transport chain (arsinic also)
lead
basophilic stippling, verve tissue damage, paint, smelter, ceramics, Tx EDTA
Mercury
crayons, toys, paint

ipecac
Carbon dioxide poisoning
uncommon
Carbon monoxide
MC from motors cigarettes,
Nitrogen oxide
cigarettes and plants
Nitrous oxide
anesthetic
Long term use of coirticosteroids
adrenals and bone loss
Ionizide
ANS dysfunction
L-dopa
parkinsonism
Monamine oxide inhibitors (MAO) (Depression drug)
prevets breakdown of neurotransmitters, increases availability fo synapses, certain foods cause nypertension, 6 months to take effect
Tricyclics (elavil) (Depression drug)
for depression, takes 6 months to take effect
Prozac (Depression drug)
Inhibits serotonin uptake, a few days to take effect, causes homicidal tendancies
Lithium carbonate (Depression drug)
manic depressive
NSAIDS: Ibuprophin - acetaminophen - overdose treatement -
Ibuprophin, GI irritation/bleeding, acetaminophen (tyloenol) - antipyretic and analgesic (liver damage) no mucosal irritation, Overdose treatment - Vomit within 4 hours, N-acetylcystine antidote
Salicylates (asprin)
Bleeding, inhibits prostatglandin, chronic use causes tinitus, gi bleeding, and kidney irritation, overdose treatment, vomit within 4 hours, activated charcoal, pump, call poison control.
Reyes Syndrome
After viral infection in children ( acute endephalopahty, fatty infiltreation of viscera, hepatometaly. S/S: headache, vomiting, amnesia, rash, seizures, lethargy. Parylsis starts in head and moves distal
Streptomyosin
(antibiotic) hearing problems
Tetracycline
(antibiotic) yelow teeth, avoid dary and sun, binds with calcium
Penicillin
(antibiotic) causes anaphylactic shock, rash
Amoxicillin
(antibiotic) stunts gi neurotransmitters and diminishes brain maturation (autism connection)
Levaquin
(antibiotic) causes tendon tears and ruptures
