what bloods would you do?
glucose, calcium, PO4, high GH?IGF1 levels
what is the first line treatment ?
surgical excision of pituitary tumour
second line? pharmacological ?
if surgery not possible or fails to correct growth hormone level somatostain analogues sandostatin ocreotide (sandiford in october)
what do sandostatin and ocreotide do to headache?
relieve almost immediately
are these drugs able to shrink the tumour?
yes
side effects of ocreotide and sandostatin?

what is cabergoline
dopamine agonist
what does cabergoline do to GH secretion?
reduces it - THIS IS NOT CURATIVE
what blocks the peripheral action of GH but does not shrink the tumour?
GH antagonist (pegvisomant)
