ACFT Flashcards
What type of flights does a Scale L4 runway lighting allow
Supports other aerodromes who operate at night
What are the ICAO wake turbulence weights of a Super A/C?
136,000kg or more
What type of flights does a Scale L3 runway lighting allow
Supports non-precision approaches
What type of flights does a Scale L2 runway lighting allow
CAT I approaches
What type of flights does a Scale L1 runway lighting allow
Supports CAT II and III approaches
Under what conditions will wake turbulence be a consideration between a/c?
- A/C are approaching for the same runway
- Approaching for a parallel runway separated by less than 760m
- Approaching for a crossing runway where the flight paths will cross
What are the ICAO wake turbulence weights of a Heavy A/C?
136,000kg or more
What are the ICAO wake turbulence weights of a Medium A/C?
7,000kg > and <136,000kg
What are the ICAO wake turbulence weights of a Light A/C?
7,000kg or less
Define Vat
1.3 x the stalling speed in the landing configuration at Max Certificated Landing Mass
What is the Vat of a Cat A A/C?
<91kts IAS
What is the Vat of a Cat B A/C?
91kts-120kts IAS
What is the Vat of a Cat C A/C?
121kts- 140kts<90kts IAS
What is the Vat of a Cat D A/C?
141kts- 165kts IAS
What is the Vat of a Cat E A/C?
166kts-210kts IAS
Define the Obstacle Clearance Altitude/Height
The lowest altitude/height above the elevation of the relevant runway threshold or above the aerodrome elevation as applicable used in establishing the compliance with the appropriate obstacle clearance criteria
Define VM (C)
Visual Manoeuvring (Circling)
Used to describe the visual phase of flight, after completing an instrument approach, where an a/c is manoeuvred into position for a landing on a runway which is not suitably located for a straight in approach
Define the VM (C) Area
Visual Manoeuvring (Circling) Area
Area in which obstacle clearance has been considered for a/c manoeuvring visually before landing. Determined by drawing arcs centred on each runway threshold and joining these arcs with tangent lines
What is the sectorisation of the VM (C) Area?
Dividing the VM (C) Area into various sectors within which obstacles or terrain may necessitate different OCH/OCAs.
It is permissible to eliminate sectors if required.
What are the other means of comms available to ATCOs to communicate with A/C?
CPDLC
Emergency radios- handheld
ACARS
Standby radio
Mobile Phone
SELCAL
What is provided by elementary Mode S?
Callsign and Level
What is provided by enhanced Mode S?
As elementary + Speed, Heading, Present Level, Cleared Level, and ROC/ROD
What are the emergency squawks?
7700 Emergency
7600 Radio Failure
7500 Hijack/unlawful Interference
