Accessory organs Flashcards
components of the oral cavity
cheeks, lips, palate, 32 permanent teeth, salivary glands
gallbladder
- bile is stored then sent to the cystic duct, then to common bile duct that join with pancreatic duct to empty bile into duodenum via major duodenal papilla
- bile can also come directly from the liver if needed
pancreas ducts
accessory pancreatic duct & main pancreatic duct
what does the accessory pancreatic duct do?
empties into duodenum via minor duodenal papilla
what does the main pancreatic duct do?
drains bile into duodenum via major duodenal papilla
list the lobes of the liver
right (largest), left, quadrate, caudate
what is the quadrate lobe of liver?
found between round ligament of liver, gallbladder and porta hepatis
- quadrates shape
what is the caudate lobe of liver?
smallest lobe, between IVC, ligamentum venosum and porta hepatis
ligaments of the liver
falciform ligament
coronary ligament
round ligament of the liver
all work to hold the liver in place
what is the falciform ligament
forms boundary between R/L lobes, adheres to anterior abdominal wall, connects to the round ligament of liver (which is a fetal remnant structure)
what is the coronary ligament
attaches liver to underside of diaphragm
what is the round ligament of the liver
ligamentum teres
attaches to anterior abdominal wall
what is the porta hepatis
where bile duct, artery, and vein all enter/exit the liver
what is the hepatoduodenal ligament
houses the portal vein, hepatic artery proper, and bile duct
forms a tube around the structures
main job of the gallbladder
produce bile for digestion
