What are the five sections of the duodenum
Superior duodenum
Descending duodenum (on the right)
Inferior duodenum

What is meant by retroperitoneal
Structures that would be behind the peritoneum
What organs are retroperitoneal
S: Suparenal (adrenal gland)
A: aorta/IVC
D: duodenum (not the first 2cm)
P: pancreas
U: urethra
C: colon (ascending and descending)
K: kidneys
E: (o)esophagus
R: rectum
What are the 9 areas of the abdominal cavity
Right and left hypochondrium
Right and left lumbar
Right and left iliac
Epigastric (top middle)
Umbilical (central)
Hypogastric (bottom middle)
What is the difference between the abdominal cavity and the peritoneal cavity
The peritoneal cavity would be within the abdominal cavity
Peritoneal cavity would be between the visceral and the parietal peritoneum
What is the lower boundary of the abdominal cavity
The upper plane of the pelvic cavity
What is ascites?
The build up of fluid in the peritoneal cavity
Normally leads to swelling of the cavity
Caused by the liver malfunctions (cirrhosis, liver failure and disease, kidney diseases etc…)
What are the intra peritoneal organs
Stomach
Cecum
Jejunum
Illeum
Transverse colon
Sigmoid colon
What is the function of the mesentary
Membrane that would attach the stomach and the small intestine to the walls of the abdominal cavity
What is the difference in the location of the greater and the lesser omentum
When have a sideways view of a medial Sagitta cross section
Lesser omentum is above the stomach.
Greater omentum is below the stomach.
What is the function of the greater omentum
Would contain lymphocytes and would allow an immune response to be carried out within the abdomen
