What is preterm?
Preterm is defined as babies born alive before 37 weeks of pregancny are completed.
There are sub-categories of preterm birth, based on gestational age:
- Extremely preterm
- Very preterm
- Moderate to late preterm
- Extremely preterm (<28 weeks)
- Very preterm (28 to <32weeks)
- Moderate to late preterm (32 to <37 weeks)

The earlier preterm birth occurs, the higher the chance of neonatal death and also long term disability
What are some long term, complications for premature birth
- Cerebral palsy
- Impaired learning
- Vision problems
- Hearing problems
- Dental problems
- Behavioural and psychological problems
- Chronic health issues.
What are the screening programmes available for preterm births
Cervical Length in high risk women

Through a transvaginal scan
